BJP National Executive welcomes Pema into party fold

NEW DELHI, Jan 7: Downing curtains on 'speculations' that turned into hot-selling 'news' for several media houses, the BJP National Executive officially welcomed Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu into the BJP 'Parivar'.

The political resolution passed and adopted by the National Executive meeting held here on January 6 and 7, mentioned, "The year (2016) has ended on another happy note with 33 MLAs from the PPA in Arunachal Pradesh, including the Chief Minister, opting to join the BJP. The National Executive welcomes the new BJP Chief Minister Pema Khandu into the BJP parivar."

On the first day of the NE meet, BJP National President Amit Shah officially welcomed Pema and his team of legislators from PPA into the party fold.

While extending support and cooperation from the National Executive in strengthening the party in the state as well as in the over-all growth of Arunachal Pradesh, Shah expressed confidence on Pema's leadership to lead the party and the state from the front.

The party noted that year 2016 has been a very successful year. In the electoral arena, the year began with the BJP entering the North East with a bang by winning Assam Assembly elections with two-thirds majority in alliance with its partners. At the year-end Arunachal Pradesh became the 10th state ruled by BJP.

The BJP registered convincing victories in the by-elections held to the Lok Sabha and different Vidhan Sabhas in states like Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh. It's showing in the Left-dominated Tripura, where it is slowly but surely emerging as the credible alternative to the Left Front pushing back parties like Congress and TMC, can't be overlooked.

In Bengal too, the Party has weathered the brute politics of the ruling party and emerged as a strong runner up in recent by-polls. The Party also registered thumping victory in the local body elections held in states like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Rajasthan. It needs to be remembered that most of these elections were held after the announcement of demone-tisation scheme by PM Modi.

Members at the meet gave a standing ovation to PM Modi for the "unprecedented" cross-border surgical strikes and the demonetisation "success".

The national executive also praised the armed forces and came down heavily on Pakistan.

The party on the second day adopted an economic resolution hailing the government's demone-tisation move.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed party workers on Saturday at the meeting.

The main focus of the two-day National Executive meet, which is being attended by former BJP presidents, party Chief Ministers and around 350 party members, kicked off on Friday in the national capital, is poll strategy in assembly elections in five states, especially UP.

Gao refutes media report of replacing Pema as CM

NEW DELHI, Jan 7: Arunachal Pradesh Unit of Bharatatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday denied any move to replace incumbent Chief Minister Pema Khandu as speculated in a section of media.

"There is no question of replacing Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who enjoys full support of entire BJP party," State BJP President Tapir Gao said, while reacting sharply to a media report that Rijiju's name is doing the rounds as the next likely chief minister of the state.

"I vehemently refute the news item published in sections of media that speculated replacement of incumbent Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu who recently joined BJP alongwith his team," Gao said in a press statement.

"Pema enjoys absolute support of 47 BJP and 2 Independent MLAs in the 60 member House. The State Unit of BJP endorsed full support to the leadership of Pema Khandu. The BJP National Executive led by National President Amit Shah and the North East In-charge Ram Madhav have also reposed absolute faith and trust in the leadership of Pema Khandu as the Chief Minister of the BJP-led Government in Arunachal Pradesh," the press statement said.

"We in BJP do not have culture of high command replacing the political leadership in the state. The speculations so made and printed by some media houses are purely rumours spread by political opponents, who are playing an outdated political trick to confuse people and to vent out their sheer frustration," Gao said.

The State BJP President appealed to the media to be more sensible in bringing out such news items by properly verifying and authenticating the source as it spreads a sense of political in-security in the state which has witnessed so much of political turmoil in the recent past.

"Media is the fourth pillar of democracy and therefore should act responsibly in the larger interest of the state and its people. It should not be a party in creating panicky situations by bringing out these types of news item that does not have any source," Gao added.

GSU disappointed over govt.’s alleged non-responsive attitude

ITANAGAR, Jan 7: The Galo Students' Union (GSU) has expressed its disappointment over state government's alleged non-responsive attitude to various demands of the union.

In a meeting at Aalo on Saturday, GSU discussed various issues pertaining to Galo community and other relevant matters. GSU expressed its dismay over non-posting of Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police at the already created Lower Siang district with its temporary HQ at Likabali and non-approval of Leppa Rada district in the recently held cabinet meeting despite assurance by the Chief Minister.

According to the students; body, a joint delegation of GWS, GPF, GSU and all Galo legislators met the CM on December 16, 2016, wherein the CM had assured to approve the posting of DC and SP in Lower Siang and take up creation of Leppa Rada.

The union also decided to take up the matter with regards to infrastructural development, providing of sufficient manpower and machineries in General Hospital, Aalo with the state government. The hospital continues to face myriad of problems since it was upgraded to General Hospital, GSU said.

The meeting took serious views of the prevailing developmental activities being carried out in various pockets of Galo inhabited areas.

Taking serious note on the alleged non-responsive attitude of the Education Department to post subject teachers in various govt. schools under Galo inhabited areas of West and East Siang, Upper Subansiri etc. despite repeated appeals and submission of memorandums, GSU has decided to intensify its movement to press the authority for posting of subject teachers.

The students' body stated that various govt. schools in remote areas were functioning with a single teacher.

Black out in Kameng districts

ITANAGAR, Jan 7: The entire East and West Kameng districts have been reeling under complete darkness since January 5 due to disruption in power supply in 132kV, Balipara-Khuppi Feeder line caused by system breakdown at Balipara Sub Station, informed the Executive Engineer (E), Bomdila Electrical Division.

Power supply is likely to remain disrupted until and unless NEEPCO fixes the fault(s), the EE said.

According to the EE, all out efforts were made by the Department of Power to restore power supply but all their efforts were in vain.

"The lightning arrestor in 132/33kV Sub Station at Khuppi maintained by NEEPCO exploded when the 132kV line was charged on the same day," the EE said.

The 132kV line was again re-charged at around 5.15 pm on Saturday but the line could not stand, reportedly due to fault in tower line, the EE informed.

Expressing DoP's helpless in restoring power supply, the EE requested the EE (E) SLDC to take the matter to higher authority.

The EE appealed to the affected consumers to bear with the inconvenience.

Grand chariot festival 'Poi-Leng' concludes

NAMSAI, Jan 7: The three-day Poi-Leng (catafalque) festival concluded on Saturday with burning of the mortal remains installed on the Chariot at Mahabodhi Lord Buddha College (MLBC) premises here with great religious honour.

More than 3 lakh monks and devotees from far and wide thronged the ground on day one to witness the installation of mortal remains and on day three to pay their veneration during cremation of the two monks in the decorated ceremonial chariot.

The combined Poi-Leng celebration was held to pay obeisance to the departed monks, Late Venerable Gyanatisa Mahathero and Late Venerable U Nanda Mahathera as per the Theraveda Buddhist traditions who attained Parinibbana on Nov 8 and 29 last year respectively at the MLBC Buddha Vihar.

The festival which began with hoisting of World Buddhist flag, offering of foods to Bhikkhu Sangha, installation of mortal remains at Catafalque (ceremonial chariots) and chanting of mangala charan on January 5 ended with cremation of mortal remains in ceremonial chariot with chanting of Buddham Sarannam Gacchammi, Dhammam Sarannam Gacchammi and Sangham Sarannam Gacchammi.

The Poi-Leng is the celebration of reflection of possession of a noble soul of Late Venerable U. Nanda Mahathera and Late Venerable Gyanatisa Mahathero who during their life span of 69 years and 87 years have spent 49 Vassa (monkhood) and 28 Vassa (monkhood) since their higher ordination to Bhikkhu in 1968 and 1989 respectively. With their death (nibbana), the entire Buddhist community has lost a respectable Buddhist Bhikkhus who were loved and respected by all people irrespective of caste, creed and religion.

The main attraction of the festival was the decorated ceremonial chariot shaped like a boat with 12 wheels. The 12 wheels signify the quality of greatness of Dhamma and Vassa Vass (years spent as monkhood) of the late venerable ones. The chariot has three steps of roofs with an elevated platform where the coffins of the departed monks are placed after performing the religious rituals. The monks and devotees pulled the chariot alternatively from either side after the installation of bodies of departed monks at the ceremonial chariot from January 5 to January 7 till the period of cremation of mortal remains of venerable ones.

The mummified bodies of Late Venerable Gyanatisa Mahathero and Late Venerable U Nanda Mahathera were preserved by the Bhikkhu Sangha and devotees in makeshift stilt hut called the Chong Nibbana at MLBC Namsai Poi-Leng Ground.

The bodies of the venerable ones were preserved in the coffin till the commencement of the festival by mummifying their bodies with cotton cloth dipped in wax, covered with tobacco leaves and charcoal.

A cultural night with presentation of Poong (Traditional dramatic art form of Tai Khampti) was another attraction of the 3 day celebration.

2 held with marijuana

RUKSIN, Jan 7: Pasighat Police arrested two persons with six kg of marijuana from Ngopok village under Mebo Sub-division on Wednesday last.

Acting on tip off, police along with women activists, raided the houses of Kolet Borang and Balal Perme at Ngopok village and seized around six kg marijuana from their possession.

A case has been registered in Pasighat police station (No. 01/2017 U/S- 20(b)(II)(b) of NDPS Act) against the two arrested persons.

Police is investigating to collect more information about the racket involved in the narcotic trade.

Arunachal to take part in Vibrant Gujarat summit

AHMEDABAD, Jan 7: Arunachal Pradesh has announced its participation in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017, which will kick-off from January 10 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu looks to explore possibilities to develop the largest untapped hydro power potential in the State and further develop horticulture sector in the State, including its famous Kiwi fruit.

The State will be represented by a team of senior officials, who will interact with prospective investors and businesses, to facilitate and streamline investments in the State that sees the 'first sunrise' in the country. (Agency)

MHADS urges its members to conserve eco-system

ITANAGAR, Jan 7: The Murh-Hatey Academic Development Society (MHADS) urged its members to avoid clearing jungles in the name of Large Cardamom cultivation, which may destroy the eco-system.

Addressing the 12th foundation day of the society, its chairman Dr. Bamang Raja suggested the members of the society to seek technical support from the concern department and the cash crops only in the foothill areas. He cautioned them that disturbing the balance of eco-system can be disastrous for all living beings.

He advised the youths to engage themselves in constructive activities and to consult with the elders before taking up any developmental activities.

Speaking on development initiative, Dr. Raja urged the concern MLA to initiate for early construction of the Kurung Bridge.

Earlier, Dr. Raja formally launched the society's official website www.mhads.org.in, which was designed by Bamang Apo. The Chief Patron of society Bamang Mangha, who is also Chairman of Sciences and Technology, GoAP, discouraged polygamy in the society.

Parliamentary Secretary (Education), Bamang Felix, who also is the Adviser and patron of the society called upon the society to focus more on education for transforming the society. He asked the members to revisit their native village once in a year.

Relief materials handed over to Wakka fire victims

ITANAGAR, Jan 7: A team of Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS) which reached Wakka, Longding on Wednesday last, handed over the relief materials donated by the well wishers of Papum Pare district in presence of Wakka branch Chandan Welfare Society and village Chief, Longam Wangham.

The APWWS team led by President, Tadar Dipti Bengia, Adviser, Goter Tali and Finance Secretary, Yab Yajor Comdir also interacted with the fire victims whose houses were completely gutted on December 22 last.

DCs briefed on Digital India Programme

ITANAGAR, Jan 7: A detailed briefing on Digital India Programme for all the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) was conducted by the Special Secretary (IT), Prince Dhawan during the recently concluded DC-SP conference.

The department of IT has been effectively using the platform of the Common Service Centers (CSCs) to encourage the Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) to take forward the digital initiative out to the block and village levels and spread the message of Digital India throughout. This programme has been used as a spring-board to push ahead many initiatives like Aadhar-linking, cashless economy and other citizen centric e-services to the village and grass-root levels.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Secretary IT, Prince Dhawan observed that GoI is incentivizing villagers as well as district administration to undertake digital transactions. He also informed about various incentives that has been announced by the NITI Aayog.

Secretary IT, Sonam Chombay hoped that Kuchkut village in Yazali Circle of Lower Subansiri district will be verified as the first cashless village of the state and nominated by GoI.

‘Hiking can be an excellent activity for Scouts & Guide’

PASIGHAT, Jan 7: The Scouts and Guides of Indira Gandhi Upper Primary School (IGUPS), Banskota, Pasighat accompanied by DTO T. Padung, Scoutmasters of different schools took part in a 2.7-km-long hiking prorgamme from IGUP School to Komlighat on Friday.

Participants conducted various activities like formation of human-bridge, pyramid etc.

"Hiking can be an excellent activity for Scouts and Guide. When undertaking a hike or expedition, it encourages the participants to develop their skills of planning, teamwork and leadership, said East Siang DDSE cum Chief Commissioner, Jongge Yirang while taking part.

He appreciated the Head Teacher cum Scoutmaster of IGUPS, AK Sinha and his associate teachers and staff of the school for conducting hiking successfully.

Yirang opined that such activities develop good habits like honesty, duty consciousness, patriotism, cleanliness and eco-friendly approach.

Earlier, Scoutmaster AK Sinha presented a brief report on annual activities and DTO T Padung and teacher YT Burang delivered motivating lectures on adventurous activities like trekking and hiking.

Aisu Panyang wins ‘Little Miss Catwalk’ title at 'Nanhipari Little Miss India-2016

ITANAGAR, Jan 7: Aisu Panyang (14) of Arunachal Pradesh has won the 'Little Miss Catwalk' title in the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar (KIIT) organized 16th Edition of Nanhipari Little Miss India-2016 contest at Bhubaneswar from December 29 to 30 last.

Over 30 contestants from all over the country took part in the competition.

Aisu, daughter of Er. Rajeev Panyang and Aseng Gamnoh, is a student of Good Shepherd School, Naharlagun.

She is also the winner of the first ever edition of 'Little Miss Nanhipari' contest held in 2015.

Along with the title of 'Little Miss Catwalk', Aisu has also won a wild card entry chance to endorse a South Korean luxury brand.

Training on Jute-Yak blended fabric manufacturing commences

DIRANG, Jan 7: A six-day-long training on 'Manufacturing of garments from Jute-Yak blended fabric' conducted ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak Centre and ICAR-National Institute of Research on Jute and Allied Fibre Technology (NIRJAFT), Kolkata commenced on Saturday.

Nine trainees from different villages of Yak rearing region are attending the training.

Director (Acting) ICAR-NIRJAFT, Kolkata, Dr. Gautam Roy, who inaugurated the training programme, highlighted the importance of Yak wool as prospective natural fibre and its potentiality to develop unique garments. He said that ICAR-NRC on Yak and ICAR-NIRJAFT shopud work together by for development of value added Yak product as sustainable business entity.

Principal Scientist & HoD, ICAR-NIRJAFT, Kolkata, Dr. AN Roy outlined different unique features of Yak wool and said that the training will greatly help tribal youths.

Director ICAR-NRC on Yak, Dr. SM Deb in his address highlighted the issues and challenges of Yak husbandry and the lead role played by ICAR-NRC on Yak to address these problems. Dr. Deb also emphasized that the training is intended to nurture and support unemployed tribal youths who would be future entrepreneur to handle fabric machinery using Yak wool for garment making.

A team of resource person, as well as senior faculty Dr. Gautom Bose and Dr. Sanjoy Debnath, from ICAR-NIRJAFT also attended the programme.

'Road Safety Week' from Jan 9

ITANAGAR, Jan 7: The 28th road safety week will be celebrated throughout the state from Jan 9 to 15 with the theme 'your safety secures your family, be cautious on the road'. During the weeklong programme, various awareness programmes on road safety measures will be taken up to educate the masses.

'Safai Abhiyan' conducted

AALO, Jan 7: A massive cleanliness drive 'Safai Abhiyan' was conducted by Galo Ane under the aegis of Galo Welfare Society in collaboration with department of Urban Development at the Daily Market Bazar, here on Saturday.

West Siang DC, Gamli Padu launched the drive which saw participation of officials from district administration, army, police, RKM School, Bazar Committees and NGOs.

While addressing a huge gathering at the Daily Market, the DC said that the Safai Abhiyan is a step towards beautification and cleanliness of Aalo Township. He further said an effort has also been made to facilitate sale and purchase of commodities in a conducive way through issue of Vendor Identity Card prepared by the department of Urban Development. He also disclosed that a minimum amount as fine will also be imposed by the women wing at government establishment, sectors, market and other public places where cleanliness is not maintained.

Aalo DMO and President GWS, Dr. Marbom Basar also dwelt at length on health and hygiene. President GASA, Jumken Doji Ete and ZPM, Higam Loyi Ango also spoke on the occasion. (DIPRO)
